Chief Dean’s new policy not allowing fire companies to ride short violated.
The topic of discussion on May 27, 2010 was chief Dean’s new policy of not allowing fire companies to ride short with thee employees on a fire truck. Chief Dean stated in an interview that fire companies would no longer ride short with three employees and told district chiefs to do whatever they needed to do to keep four employees on fire trucks to make working conditions safe.
This policy went into effect on Monday the 24th of May 2010 and the subject of the Thursday morning discussion on the 27th of May was about truck 5 riding short in the PM with only three employees to man ladder truck 5. Ladder truck 5 is the only ladder truck located in west Mobile at Tapia fire station on the busiest street in town on Airport Boulevard.
Apparently this new policy is not being enforced or truck 5’s manpower issue must not be important enough to be included in the new policy. This is only one case known of that violated the new policy chief Dean made public one day after it was issued.
This policy was publicly announced on the Internet on Monday May 24th 2010 at the following websitewww.wkrg.com/alabama/article/blue-flu-or-legit-sick-time/889961/May-24-2010_6-12-pm/ .
This policy and others like it is a proven factor that rules and policies are made to be broken.
